Meet the Artist: Josh Bach Neckwear

Josh Bach loves New York City. “95% of my designs are inspired by my surroundings, the people I meet and  things I see in my city,” he says, so of course, when he founded his company in 1993, he wanted to employ his fellow New Yorkers. And, for the last 25 years, he has done exactly that! Every piece from his neckwear line has been designed, made, and hand-finished in New York City.

Josh’s distinctive neckwear aims to “catch your eye,  make you smile, or evoke a fond memory”—and it most certainly succeeds. Customers at Pinch love the city maps of the Civitas collection, and bright colors and quirky designs of his sharks, Legos, golf tees, pixelated Marios, and more. History buffs especially appreciate the Declaration of Independenceand Constitution ties, while hipsters go in for dogs, octopi, and bicycles on their bowties. These unusual designs are a welcome addition to the usually staid world of men’s accessories.

These ties have appeared in movies, on television shows, in magazines, around the necks of several celebrities, talk show hosts, financial gurus, heads of corporations, CEOs, and newscasters. They are also featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Throughout the years, Josh’s designs have changed, but one thing remains constant—Josh’s source of inspiration: “I can't turn around in New York City without seeing something that inspires me. I also can't seem to walk a block from my New York City apartment without seeing somebody sporting a necktie.”
